Meeting minutes of Sunday, March 1st, 2009
Arizona State University, Tempe Campus—Farmer Building
 Local to Global Justice Teach-In

In attendance: Erik Andersen, Nicholas Bravo, Celeste Castorena, Korky Day, Rebecca DeWitt, Hal Goldfarb, Cindy Greenwood, Ashe Higgs, Aerial Higgs (Ashe’s 7 year old daughter), Vincent Kruse, Linda Macias, Telemachos “Tim” Mavrides, Vanessa Oros & Angel Torres

Angel Torres, county co-chair, called the meeting to order at 12:51 PM. The panel presentation that had been planned was suspended due to the absence of some of those on the panel.

Angel talked about the petition drive for ballot access. He listed many places that folks could go to gather petitions. We need 40,000 signatures, up 10,000 from the number we turned in for 2008. We currently have 15 volunteers. The hope is that members who are collecting signatures can finish one page in a week. At this point, Maricopa County has 350 signatures in hand. Pima County has over 1,000 signatures.

Elections for the county steering committee were held and the results are:

Co-chair: Celeste Castorena (term expires 2011)
Co-chair: Angel Torres (term expires 2010)
Secretary: Hal Goldfarb (term expires 2011)
Treasurer: Rebecca DeWitt (term extended to 2010)
Recorder: Linda Macias (term expires 2010)
Media Spokesperson: Erik Andersen (term expires 2011)
Website coordinator: Ashe Higgs (term expires 2011)
At-large member: Telemachos “Tim” Mavrides (term expires 2010)
At-large member: Vanessa Oros (term expires 2010)

Linda Macias reported on the county carport/yard sale to be held at Amalia Vidas’ home on Saturday & Sunday (March 7-8). A sign-up sheet was passed around for members to help out working the set-up, tear-down and other shifts for the two day event.

Vincent Kruse reminded the group about the Gay Pride March and Festival on Saturday/Sunday (April 18-19). He donated the money for a spot to march in the parade. We will need to have volunteers so that the GPMC booth has members there all day, up to 7 PM.

The next GPMC meeting will be Sat. March 28th (1pm to 3pm) in the Saguaro Room (2nd floor) of the Mesa Public Library (Main Branch), 64 E. 1st ST., Mesa, 85201. The following month’s meeting on Saturday, April 25th will be a potluck dinner (4:30pm to 8:30pm) at Chandler Tumbleweed Park, 2250 S. McQueen Road.
